Dheeksha Raju

Hi Gaveliers! My name is Dheeksha, and I was the secretary for the club during the year 2020-21.

My Story

I joined the club frankly because I had too little on my plate when I had first joined DPS in grade 11, and I’m glad I did. I’ve gone from being a member to an officer, and the journey was unlike any others. The best part of it all, besides becoming a much more confident speaker, I learned about teamwork, and I’m so grateful for having gotten the chance to do so.

What I’ve learned throughout my journey with the club is to speak at every chance you get.  I was always reluctant about giving speeches during the meetings, but once I decided to take a chance, I realized I had nothing to fret about.
It was enjoyable to write and practice my speeches, but spontaneous speaking was even better. It got me to think on my feet and gave me a rush of excitement before and after I finished speaking!! The key takeaway was just to take chances.

Being nervous about your speech is okay but giving in to those nerves isn’t. The only way to get better at something is to do it often, which is my advice to becoming a better speaker. Take on as many opportunities to speak during the meetings and accept the feedback you receive. The most important tip is to enjoy the experience!
