Amrutha Kasarla
Greetings Gaveliers! I am Amrutha Kasarla, the Vice President Membership of DPS Nacharam Gavel Club from 2020-2021.
My Story
I've been a part of this club for 2 years. I started as a member, and I eventually became an officer. In grade 11, my friends and I wanted to be a part of as many extracurricular activities as possible, so we decided to join the Gavel Club. I also had a small interest in public speaking, which made my journey with the Gavel Club more interesting and exciting. I joined the club to be more active and have fun but little did I know that this club would become such an important part of my life.
As a member, I had a lot of fun in the meetings. I was very active, and I tried to speak whenever I could. My speaking skills improved a lot, and I also gained confidence. The appreciation from my fellow members and officers made me want to work more on myself and my speaking skills. After a year of being a member, I got an opportunity to become an officer directly. I've acquired many skills by working in the Gavel Club as an officer. I worked with a team, so I learned how to consider everybody's opinions and look at things differently. It helped me become more responsible and a good team player. Being the Presiding Officer for Grade 11 was one of the Best Experiences I've had. I loved talking to the members, helping them overcome their stage fright and boost their confidence. This club has not only improved my skills but has also given me some amazing friends. Our mentors Likhith and Tejaswi, have also helped me overcome my fears, trying something new, and improving myself. Thanks to the Gavel Club, I am now a good speaker and a leader.
The one thing I believe in is that life is all about grabbing opportunities and trying something new. It's very important to get out of your comfort zone. If I didn't try and get out of my comfort zone two years ago, I wouldn't have been a part of this amazing club, and I wouldn't have these amazing people in my life. Trying something new can be scary at first but believe me, the confidence you get later makes you feel that all the struggle was worth it. So get out there, learn new things, explore and never give up!
